Since 2013 the trade of diamond cuttting is acknowledged as intangible heritage. This trade is practised in our GASSAN Diamonds factory in the center of Amsterdam. GASSAN Diamonds uses conflict free diamonds. All diamonds have been purchased from legitimate sources which are not involved in funding conflicts and in compliance with the United Nations resolutions.
In October 1945, the Dutch diamond trader, Samuel Gassan, the grandfather of the present managing director Benno Leeser, established GASSAN Diamonds. At het beginning of 2013, the company became the first winner of the ‘Family owned business award’, partly due to its positive response to the recession of 2009. The jewelry branch as well as the Wholesale and Retail trade in diamonds stayed the course and witnessed record turnovers in 2011 and 2012. A year later, the GASSAN diamonds cutting facility welcomed a record number of over 400,000 visitors with approximately 30% from Asia.
